High Chromium Bearing Steel Gcr15 Material Manufacturing Method - China

GCr15 material is the most commonly used high-chromium bearing steel.

It has high hardenability and can achieve high and uniform hardness after heat treatment.

It has better wear resistance than GCr9, high contact fatigue strength, good dimensional stability and corrosion resistance, moderate cold deformation plasticity, average machinability, poor weldability, sensitivity to white spot formation, and first-class temper brittleness.

In ball bearing manufacturing, it is used for H- to C-grade bearing sleeves with a wall thickness of 12mm and an outer diameter of less than 250mm, steel balls with diameters of 25.4-50.8mm, and rollers with diameters of less than 22mm.

It can also be used for other mechanical parts that bear heavy loads and require high wear resistance, high elastic limit, and high contact fatigue strength, as well as for various precision measuring tools and cold stamping dies.

Examples include ball screws for machine tools, nozzles, plungers, valves, and bushings for turbojet nozzles.

Manufacturing Methods

The smelting quality of GCr15 material is very demanding, requiring strict control of the content and distribution of sulfur, phosphorus, and non-metallic inclusions.

This is because these inclusions significantly impact the life of the bearing steel.

The higher the inclusion content, the shorter the life.

To improve smelting quality, electric furnace smelting followed by electroslag remelting has recently been adopted.

New processes such as vacuum smelting and vacuum consumable refining are also being employed to improve bearing steel quality.
