ASSAB 8407 is a premium hot work tool steel grade supplied by the well known Swedish steel producer Uddeholm, and it is widely regarded as an enhanced quality version of the classic 5% chromium family that also includes AISI H13, JIS SKD61, DIN 1.2344 and Z40CDV5 - Songshun Steel offers compatible material with equivalent chemistry and performance for buyers who need 8407 type steel with dependable die life at a competitive cost.

The grade is characterized by high purity, small and evenly distributed carbides, and strict micro cleanliness control.

These properties translate into superior resistance to heat checking, excellent hot strength, good resistance to erosion from molten aluminium, and very good polishability for visible die cast surfaces.

Mould steels of this type are the standard choice for aluminium die casting dies, trim dies, hot extrusion tooling, forging dies and plastic moulds that face severe thermal cycling.

Working hardness after quenching and double tempering normally sits in the HRC 45 52 range.

Supply forms include round bars, flat bars, plates, sawn blocks and custom forged modules, all ultrasonic inspected to SEP 1921 and delivered with certified chemical analysis.

Pre hardened condition, ESR remelted quality and various surface treatments such as nitriding can be arranged on request, and machining or heat treatment can be finished in our workshop before shipment.
