Z40CDV5 steel is the French AFNOR designation for a 5% chromium hot work alloy tool steel, internationally recognized in the same family as AISI H13, DIN 1.2344, JIS SKD61 and GB 4Cr5MoSiV1 - Songshun Steel supplies Z40CDV5 in a full range of semi finished shapes for mould and die makers across Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Thanks to its balanced chemistry of carbon, chromium, molybdenum and vanadium, Z40CDV5 offers excellent hot strength together with very good resistance to thermal fatigue and heat checking.

Dies produced from this grade withstand rapid temperature cycling in aluminium and magnesium die casting, and the vanadium carbides give strong abrasive wear resistance during extrusion and hot forming work.

Annealed delivery hardness is typically HB 229 maximum, while the hardened and double tempered condition reaches HRC 45 52 with good dimensional stability.
