Precautions for the Heat Treatment of SKD2 Mold Steel

In practical operations, to ensure that the heat treatment of SKD2 mold steel achieves optimal results, the following points must be observed:

- Uniform Heating: Throughout the entire heat treatment process, uniform heating must be ensured to prevent deformation or cracking caused by excessive temperature gradients.

- Cooling Rate Control: The cooling rate during quenching must be adjusted according to the shape and dimensions of the workpiece; cooling that is either too rapid or too slow will adversely affect the final mechanical properties.

- Surface Protection: To prevent high-temperature oxidation or decarburization, the surface of the workpiece may be treated with a protective coating prior to heat treatment, or the heat treatment process may be conducted within a vacuum furnace.
