In recent years, improving the properties of ASTM D2 steel by adding the rare earth element yttrium has become a research focus.

The addition of yttrium can alter the type and morphology of inclusions in the steel, changing Al2O3 and MnS to Y2S3 and Y2O2S, and promoting heterogeneous nucleation of eutectic carbides, thereby refining carbide size.

When the yttrium addition amount is 150 ppm, the longitudinal impact energy of ASTM D2 steel increases by 46.9%, and promotes carbide spheroidization, causing the fracture mechanism to shift from transgranular fracture to intergranular fracture.

The performance of domestically produced Cr12Mo1V1 steel has been verified, showing superiority over traditional Cr12MoV steel.

Due to adjustments and increases in the content of elements such as Mo and V, and the inclusion of Co, this steel maintains high hardness, high wear resistance, and low quenching deformation while improving strength, toughness, and tempering stability.

Cr12Mo1V1 steel is suitable for manufacturing complex, easily deformable, high-load cold stamping dies, cold shearing blades, and thread rolling plates.

Its typical heat treatment process includes multi-stage preheating and quenching and multiple tempering.

For high-precision molds, deep cryogenic treatment is recommended.
