High Carbon Chromium Ledeburitic Cold Work Die Steel Astm D2 Material - China

ASTM D2 material is an internationally recognized high-carbon, high-chromium ledeburitic cold work die steel, corresponding to Chinese GB standard Cr12Mo1V1, American ASTM standard D2, and Japanese JIS standard SKD11 - Its chemical composition is primarily carbon (1.40%~1.60%) and chromium (11.00%~13.00%), containing molybdenum (0.70%~1.20%), vanadium (≤1.10%), as well as silicon, manganese, cobalt, and other elements.

It possesses high hardenability, wear resistance, and high-temperature oxidation resistance.

After heat treatment, its hardness can reach 60~65 HRC, with low deformation and strong corrosion resistance.

Adding rare earth elements such as yttrium can improve its wear resistance and impact toughness; when the yttrium content is 150 ppm, the impact energy can be increased by 46.9%.

ASTM D2 material is suitable for manufacturing high-precision, long-life cold-working dies, such as punching dies and cold extrusion dies, with a service life superior to traditional Cr12MoV steel.

Domestically produced Cr12Mo1V1 steel exhibits significant deformation after heat treatment.

ASTM D2 material has a higher hardness than SKD11 but lower toughness.

Common heat treatment processes include preheating followed by quenching at 980~1100℃, and tempering at 180~230℃ or 510~540℃.

Tempering should be performed promptly after quenching, often at least twice, to prevent cracking and reduce deformation.

D2 steel is widely used in the manufacture of industrial molds such as silicon steel sheet punching dies, cold-cutting shears, and thread rolling dies.
