SKH51 (JIS) is the tungsten-molybdenum M2-type high-speed steel whose wear performance comes from a high carbon content combined with a large volume of hard tungsten, molybdenum and vanadium carbides dispersed through the martensitic matrix.

These carbide particles are far harder than the abrasive powders, scale and work-hardened chips a tool meets in service, so they stand proud and shield the softer matrix from being ground away.

That carbide structure is why SKH51 keeps a sharp cutting edge and a long service life in continuous cutting, punching and forming.

Compared with general-purpose tool steels, the alloy-carbide volume raises resistance to abrasive and adhesive wear, which reduces re-grinding frequency and downtime on busy production lines.

Songshun supplies SKH51 in the shapes that wear-critical parts are made from: round bar, flat bar, forged block and pre-machined blank, with surfaces from rough forged to ground and polished.
