Astm 8620 Alloy Material Fatigue Resistance - China

ASTM 8620 alloy material is a Ni-Cr-Mo series low-carbon alloy carburizing steel.

Due to its "hard exterior, tough interior" gradient properties, it possesses excellent fatigue resistance, making it particularly suitable for components subjected to cyclic loads, impacts, and wear.

According to the latest data from 2025, its fatigue performance characteristics are as follows: Fatigue Strength and Durability Limits - Contact Fatigue Strength: After carburizing, the surface hardness can reach HRC 58-62, and the contact fatigue strength ≥1500 MPa, significantly higher than ordinary carbon steel and medium-low alloy steel, suitable for high-load gears, bearings, and other alternating contact stress conditions.

- Bending Fatigue Limit: In the quenched and tempered + carburized state, the fatigue limit of 8620 steel is approximately 539 MPa (room temperature).

It retains ≥85% of its fatigue performance at low temperatures (-40 ℃), making it suitable for use in cold regions.

- Rotational Bending Fatigue Limit: Under standard carburizing + tempering processes, its fatigue limit can reach 600~650 MPa, close to that of the higher alloy 9310 steel, but at a lower cost.

Conclusion: ASTM 8620 alloy steel, after carburizing, quenching, and tempering, exhibits excellent performance in contact fatigue, bending fatigue, and impact fatigue, with a fatigue limit exceeding 600 MPa.

It performs exceptionally well in high-cyclic-load environments such as those used in automobiles, railways, and petroleum machinery, making it a highly cost-effective fatigue-resistant material choice.
