SNCM220 carburizing alloy steel is a typical Ni-Cr-Mo low-carbon alloy carburizing steel, known for its "hard exterior and tough interior, " and has become one of the preferred materials for mass production of automotive transmission gears.

The following section explains its mature application in transmission gears in four stages: "Material Properties → Gear Manufacturing Process → Heat Treatment Specifications → Quality Control Points.

" Transmission Gear Manufacturing Process (Mass Production) 1 - Blanking: φ20-60 mm hot-rolled bar stock, annealed to a hardness ≤ 197 HB, facilitating cold forging/machining.

2 - Warm Forging/Cold Forging + Finishing: Near-net-shape forming, leaving a tooth tip allowance of 0.25-0.35 mm.

3 - Preliminary Heat Treatment: Normalizing 900-920 ℃ → Machining hardness 150-170 HB, homogenizing the microstructure.

4 - Gear Blank Machining: CNC turning, broaching, and hobbing, leaving a 0.15 mm grinding allowance for the tooth thickness.

5 - Carburizing and quenching.

6 - Post-processing: - Honing or worm gear grinding to DIN 6-7 grade precision; - Shot peening (0.3-0.5 mm cast steel shot, strength 0.36-0.42 mmA) → tooth root compressive stress -400 MPa or more, bending fatigue life +15%.

7 - Rust prevention, matching marking, assembly.

SNCM220 carburizing alloy steel, with its high hardenability, high core toughness, and excellent carburizing response, has become a mature mass-production material for automotive MT/AT/DCT transmission gears.

Through a combined process of "warm forging-double quenching-grinding-shot peening, " reliable indicators such as contact fatigue life ≥ 3×10^7 cycles and bending fatigue limit ≥ 539 MPa can be achieved under the premise of large-scale, low-cost production.
