CNS SCr430 steel is an alloy structural steel specified in the Taiwan National Standard (CNS).

It is a chromium-based quenched and tempered steel with composition and properties similar to 43Cr steel or SAE 5140 steel specified in international standards.

It is primarily used for mechanical parts requiring high strength, toughness, and wear resistance.

The excellent properties of CNS SCr430 steel are achieved through a quenching and tempering process (quenching + high-temperature tempering):

Quenching: Heating to 830-860°C (austenitizing temperature) and oil or water cooling creates a martensitic structure, significantly increasing hardness and strength.

High-temperature tempering: Heating to 500-600°C, holding, and then air cooling decomposes the martensite into tempered bainite (fine carbides evenly distributed within a ferrite matrix).

This significantly improves toughness and ductility while maintaining high strength and reducing internal stress.

After this treatment, CNS SCr430 steel achieves a uniform microstructure and an optimal balance of comprehensive mechanical properties.
