1 - Hardness Standard

The hardness of 1.2436 mold steel after annealing should be controlled to ≤255 HB (typically around 225 HB).

This hardness range is suitable for machining operations.

2 - Microstructure

After annealing, a spheroidal pearlite structure should be obtained—specifically, spheroidal carbides uniformly distributed within a ferrite matrix.

An ideal spheroidized structure ensures excellent machinability.

3 - Quality Inspection

Quality inspection of the annealing process primarily includes:

Records of annealing temperature, heating time, and holding time

Surface quality inspection (absence of defects such as scale or decarburization)

Hardness testing (Brinell hardness, HB)
