ASTM 5140 material is a type of alloy structural steel.

Its pickling process is designed to remove impurities such as surface scale and rust, thus providing an excellent surface condition for subsequent processing or treatment.

1 - Pretreatment: Before pickling, the surface of the ASTM 5140 material must be thoroughly cleaned of contaminants such as grease, dust, and other contaminants.

Typical methods include solvent cleaning, alkaline cleaning, or high-pressure water cleaning.

2 - Pickling: The pretreated ASTM 5140 material is placed in a pickling tank for pickling.

For hydrochloric acid pickling, the concentration can be controlled between 5% and 20%, and the temperature is generally room temperature.

The immersion time is determined by factors such as the degree of contamination and material thickness of the workpiece, typically ranging from 20 to 60 minutes.

For sulfuric acid pickling, the concentration is generally between 10% and 20%, and the temperature is around 40°C.

The pickling time also needs to be adjusted based on the actual situation.

During the pickling process, agitation equipment or a circulation system can be used to ensure that the pickling solution is evenly distributed across the workpiece surface, improving the treatment effect.

3 - Neutralization treatment: After the ASTM 5140 material pickling is completed, the workpiece is immediately removed and the residual acid is neutralized with 3%-5% sodium carbonate solution to prevent excessive corrosion of the metal.
