NF 20NCD2 steel is a low-carbon nickel-chromium-molybdenu m alloy carburizing steel under the French NF standard.

It belongs to the same series of steels as 20NiCrMo2 and W-Nr.

It is commonly used to manufacture high-hardness, high-wear-resistant precision gears, shafts, and other components.

Mechanical Polishing (Mainstream and Common Method, Suitable for Most Conventional Parts) This method removes surface imperfections through physical friction of NF 20NCD2 steel.

The surface finish can be flexibly adjusted, making it suitable for relatively regular-shaped parts such as shafts and plates.

The specific steps involve four stages of grinding: - Rough Grinding: Using 60-150 grit corundum abrasive belts or wheels, and with the aid of angle grinders, polishing machines, etc., this mainly removes burrs, large scratches, forging marks, and other obvious defects from the workpiece surface.

During grinding, the pressure should be controlled evenly to avoid localized overheating that could damage the surface structure.

The surface should be basically smooth after grinding.

- Medium Grinding: Replace with a 180-320 grit fine abrasive belt and grind transversely to the direction of the coarse grinding marks.

The purpose is to eliminate the deeper scratches left by coarse grinding, initially reducing surface roughness.

This stage requires repeated grinding to ensure no obvious coarse grinding marks remain, and the surface of NF 20NCD2 steel gradually becomes smooth to the touch.

- Fine Grinding: Use a 500-800 grit diamond wheel or fine sandpaper to further refine the surface, grinding until only fine, uniform grinding marks remain.

This lays the foundation for subsequent fine polishing.

The grinding speed can be appropriately reduced in this step to minimize heat generation.
