1.6523 steel is essentially a low-carbon nickel-chromium-molybdenu m alloy carburizing steel, corresponding to the 20NiCrMo2 steel you previously mentioned.

It's commonly used to manufacture automotive gears, crankshafts, and other components requiring a "hard exterior and tough interior" structure.

Its stable heat treatment process combines annealing, carburizing, quenching, and tempering, while adjusting parameters to suit different pretreatments and performance requirements.

Quenching (hardening and martensitic formation)

Quenching transforms the surface structure of carburized W-Nr.

1.6523 steel into high-hardness martensite.

There are two common methods: one is direct quenching after carburizing, using the same temperature as the later stages of carburizing (880-920℃), holding at that temperature for a sufficient period, followed by oil quenching; the other, for thick sections or complex parts, to avoid cracking, the carburized steel can be reheated to 850-880℃, held at that temperature, and then oil quenched.

Tempering (stress relief, balancing strength and toughness): Quenched parts have poor toughness and high internal stress, requiring tempering treatment.

The conventional low-temperature tempering temperature is 150-200℃, held for 2-4 hours, and then air-cooled.

This method effectively eliminates quenching stress and improves the toughness of W-Nr.

1.6523 steel while maintaining high surface hardness, making it suitable for wear-resistant and impact-resistant applications such as gears.
