Industrial Ks Std61 Steel Suitable For High Temperature Mold Applications - China

KS STD61 steel belongs to the chromium-molybdenum-vanad ium series of hot work die steels.

It is suitable for medium- and high-temperature hot work dies, but has an upper temperature limit and is not a material for ultra-high temperature applications.

Applicable High-Temperature Die Applications:

1 - Aluminum, magnesium, and zinc alloy die casting dies, cores, punches, ejector pins

2 - Aluminum profile hot extrusion dies, flow dividers

3 - Medium- and small-load hot forging dies, hot stamping dies, hot shearing edges

4 - High-temperature thermosetting plastic molds (mold temperature 200-300℃) > ESR electroslag remelting grade KS STD61 steel is preferred, as it has higher purity, better resistance to thermal cracking, and significantly longer service life than ordinary electric arc furnace materials.

ESR material is strongly recommended for cyclic thermal shock applications.

Summary: KS STD61 steel is very suitable for high-temperature die applications such as aluminum/magnesium/zinc die casting, hot extrusion, and medium- and small-scale hot forging, which are subject to thermal cycling up to 580℃; however, it cannot be used for continuous high-temperature applications above 600℃ or heavy-load copper die casting applications.
