Thermal cutting or rough machining must be performed in the spheroidized annealed state; flame or plasma cutting is prohibited after hardening—only wire-cut EDM or grinding is permitted.

| Oxy-fuel flame cutting | >40 mm | Low cost for thick plates | Severe hardening and high crack risk; prone to edge cracking; use only for very rough blanks; not recommended for die steel stock| Best practice: Blanking via band saw or water-jet in the annealed state.
