ASTM 6150 is a high-strength alloy steel, commonly known as 6150 spring steel.

Mechanical properties: Tensile strength ≥1274 MPa, yield strength ≥1127 MPa, elongation δ5 ≥10%, reduction of area ψ ≥40%, and hardness ≤321 HB in the hot-rolled state and ≤321 HB in the cold-drawn and heat-treated state.

These data indicate that ASTM 6150 material exhibits high strength and good toughness.

Reasons for its high strength: On the one hand, the solid solution strengthening effect of carbon increases the steel's strength; on the other hand, the addition of vanadium refines the steel's grain size.

According to the Hall-Page equation, grain refinement significantly improves the steel's strength and toughness.

Furthermore, the addition of chromium improves the steel's hardenability, resulting in a more uniform microstructure and higher strength after heat treatment.

Applications: Due to its high strength and good overall performance, ASTM 6150 material is often used to manufacture parts that need to withstand high loads and large stresses, such as automotive suspension springs, engine springs, industrial machinery springs and other spring products, as well as automotive parts such as crankshafts, drive shafts, gears, and piston pins.
