It corresponds to the US standard H11, Chinese standard 4Cr5MoSiV, and German standard 1.2343, and is widely used for hot-forming dies featuring large cross-sections and complex cavities.

Its high hardenability stems fundamentally from the Cr-Mo composite alloy system; this allows for through-hardening of thick sections via air cooling, eliminating the need for oil quenching.
