High Carbon Chromium Bearing Material Gb Gcr15 Steel Mechanical Properties Influence - China

GB GCr15 steel is a representative grade of high-carbon chromium bearing steel, offering excellent overall properties.

After quenching and tempering, it exhibits high and uniform hardness, high wear resistance, and excellent contact fatigue resistance.

It also exhibits excellent hot workability.

After spheroidizing annealing, it exhibits good machinability, but is sensitive to white spot formation.

It is primarily used in the manufacture of steel balls, rollers, and bushings for drive shafts in internal combustion engines, electric locomotives, machine tools, tractors, rolling equipment, drilling rigs, railway vehicles, and mining machinery.

Mechanical Properties

1 - Effect of Quenching Temperature.

The normal quenching heating temperature for GB GCr15 steel is 830-860°C, typically using oil cooling.

The optimal quenching heating temperature is 840°C, achieving a hardness of 63-65 HRC after quenching.

In actual production conditions, the quenching temperature may vary slightly depending on the effective cross-sectional dimensions of the mold and the quenching medium.

For larger molds or those using nitrate-grade quenching, a higher quenching temperature (840-860°C) is recommended to improve hardenability, achieve sufficient hardened layer depth, and achieve higher hardness.

For smaller molds or those using oil cooling, a lower quenching temperature (830-850°C) is generally used.

For molds of the same specifications, heating in a box furnace should be slightly higher than in a salt bath furnace.

2 - The Effect of Tempering Temperature.

As the tempering temperature increases, the hardness decreases after tempering.

When the tempering temperature exceeds 200°C, the steel enters the first temper brittle zone.

Therefore, the tempering temperature for GB GCr15 steel is generally 160-180°C.
