Measures to improve welding performance

1 - Preheating before welding: Preheating is one of the important measures to improve the welding performance of 42CrMo4 steel coil.

The preheating temperature is generally determined according to the composition, thickness, welding method and other factors of the steel, usually around 200℃ - 300℃.

Preheating can reduce the cooling rate of the welded joint, reduce the generation of hardened structure, and also help reduce welding stress.

2 - Select suitable welding materials: Welding materials that match the composition of the parent material and have good welding performance should be selected.

For example, for 442CrMo4 steel coil, low-hydrogen type welding rods or welding wires, such as E7015, E7018 and other welding rods, or ER70S-6 and other welding wires can be selected.

These welding materials have a lower hydrogen content and can reduce the tendency of hydrogen-induced cracking in the welded joint.

3 - Post-weld heat treatment: Post-weld heat treatment is also one of the important measures to improve the welding performance of 42CrMo4 steel.

The purpose of post-weld heat treatment is to eliminate welding stress and improve the structure and performance of the welded joint.

The temperature of post-weld heat treatment is generally around 600℃ - 700℃, and the holding time is determined according to factors such as the thickness of the welded joint, generally around 1h - 2h.

Post-weld heat treatment can reduce the hardness and brittleness of the welded joint and improve its toughness and crack resistance.
