GB 42CrMo4 steel is a medium carbon alloy structural steel with high strength, hardenability and good toughness.

The following is the relevant content of its deep processing: Heat treatment:

- **Quenching**: GB 42CrMo4 steel is usually heated to 840-900℃, and then quickly cooled by oil cooling, water cooling or salt bath cooling to make the steel obtain martensitic structure.

The hardness after quenching can reach HRC32-55.

- **Tempering**: According to specific performance requirements, tempering is carried out between 150-600℃ to reduce the brittleness after quenching, improve toughness and fatigue strength.

High temperature tempering (650-700℃) can further improve toughness and reduce hardness, which is suitable for occasions with high toughness requirements.

- **Annealing**: Annealing can be carried out at 760±10℃, furnace cooled to 400℃ and then air cooled to reduce hardness, improve processing performance, eliminate internal stress and soften the material.

- **Normalizing**: Heating to 850 - 900℃, air cooling after leaving the furnace, can improve the toughness and uniformity of steel and refine the grains.

Machining: GB 42CrMo4 steel has good machinability, and commonly used machining methods include turning, milling, drilling, cutting, polishing, boring, etc.

However, it should be noted that the difficulty of machining increases when the material hardness is high, so steel that has not been heat treated or has been softened and annealed is relatively easier to machine.

When deep hole machining, due to the high strength of the material, it is necessary to select appropriate tools and processing parameters, such as using ultra-fine grain carbide materials and high-performance PVD coated tools, which can improve machining efficiency and quality and reduce machining costs.
