GB Cr12 steel, corresponding to the D2 category of cold work die steel, is a widely used cold work die steel internationally.

Its rolls possess certain technical characteristics in applications in the steel pipe and cold-formed steel industries.

Domestically produced ZCr15 and ZCr20 series high-chromium rolls, after long-term use, have performance similar to imported D2, X155CrVMo12-1, and SKD11 forged steel rolls, and can be used as substitutes.

The ZCr15 and ZCr20 series high-chromium rolls have been included in the national standard GB/T 31936-2015 "Welded Steel Pipe Rolls" and the industry standard YB/T 4556-2016 "Cold-Formed Steel Rolls".

The carbide content of high-chromium rolls is approximately 20%-25%, higher than the 15%-18% of D2 category rolls.

Specific examples of replacements include Danieli of Italy ordering ZCr15 and ZCr20 straightening rolls to replace D2 type rolls; SMS Group of Germany using ZCr15 and ZCr20 to replace X155CrVMo12-1 rolls in its Ø427 large ERW welded pipe unit; and MILLTECH of South Korea using ZCr15 and ZCr20 high-chromium rolls to replace D2 type rolls in welded pipe units designed and manufactured for multiple countries.
