G51200 Steel Carburizing Quenching Low Temperature Surface Hardening Treatment - China

Carburizing + quenching + low temperature tempering (most commonly used)

This is the preferred process for surface hardening of G51200 steel, suitable for scenarios requiring high surface hardness (58-63 HRC) and core toughness (≥900 MPa tensile strength) (such as gears and shaft parts).

Process steps:

Carburizing: Place G51200 steel in a carburizing medium (such as natural gas, kerosene cracking gas), keep it at 900-930℃ for 4-10 hours (depending on the depth of the carburizing layer), so that the surface carbon content rises to 0.8%-1.2%.

Quenching: After carburizing, G51200 steel is directly cooled to 820-850℃ (austenitizing temperature), and then oil-cooled or water-cooled after keeping it warm, so that the surface obtains martensitic structure (hardness is significantly improved).

Low temperature tempering: 150-200℃ for 1-3 hours to eliminate quenching stress, stabilize the surface structure, avoid cracking, and maintain high hardness (the surface hardness can still reach 55-62 HRC after tempering).

Advantages: The depth of the infiltration layer is controllable (usually 0.5-2.0 mm), G51200 steel has high surface hardness and good core toughness, which is suitable for parts that withstand impact and wear.
