The phase composition, hardness, and microstructure of EN NF X100CrMoV5 steel before and after annealing are shown in Table 2-13-4 - It should be noted that: (1) The annealing heating and holding time is 1-2 hours after all the furnace charge has been heated to the annealing temperature, followed by cooling; the isothermal holding time is 3-4 hours; (2) High-temperature tempering is used to eliminate cold deformation work hardening (e.g., recrystallization annealing); and to eliminate machining internal stress before heat treatment.

For parts with excessively low hardness after heat treatment, high-temperature tempering is also performed before secondary quenching, with a holding time of 2-3 hours after all the furnace charge has been heated to the temperature; (3) Normalizing is used to refine the grains of overheated steel and eliminate carbide networks; (4) When the annealing hardness HB of EN NF X100CrMoV5 steel is lower than 183, quenching and tempering is used to improve the surface finish of machined parts.
