The hot rolling process for NF 32C4 steel typically involves the following steps, each of which is critical to ensuring the steel achieves the desired dimensions, properties, and surface quality.

1 - Heating

Process: NF 32C4 steel billets (typically continuous-cast billets or ingots) are fed into a reheating furnace and heated to 1100-1300°C, exceeding the steel's recrystallization temperature (approximately 850°C).

Heating time is controlled between 2-4 hours, depending on billet size, to ensure uniform temperature distribution.

2 - Descaling

Process: Oxide scale forms on the heated billet surface.

This scale is removed using high-pressure water jets (approximately 150-200 bar) or mechanical methods.

The water jet temperature is controlled between 50-80°C to prevent excessive cooling of the billet.

3 - Roughing Rolling

Process: The descaled slab enters the roughing mill, where it undergoes multiple rolling passes (typically 4-6 reciprocating passes) to reduce the thickness from 200-300mm to 50-80mm.

The rolling temperature is maintained at 1000-1200°C, and the mill is equipped with large-diameter work rolls and backup rolls.

4 - Finishing Rolling

Process: The rough-rolled steel enters the finishing mill for further thinning to the target thickness (typically 1.25-22mm).

The finishing rolling temperature is controlled at 900-1000°C, lower than the roughing temperature but still above the recrystallization temperature, to ensure surface quality and dimensional accuracy.

The number of rolling passes is typically 5-7 - 5 - Cooling

Process: The finish-rolled steel is cooled by water spray or forced air at a cooling rate of 5-20°C/s, depending on the target properties.

After cooling, the steel temperature drops to 200-300°C and then naturally cools to room temperature.

This process refines the grain size, improving strength (tensile strength 900-1100 MPa) and toughness (elongation after fracture ≥11%).

Defect Elimination: Casting defects (such as pores and inclusions) are removed, improving material uniformity.

Production Efficiency: High-temperature rolling reduces deformation resistance and improves rolling efficiency, making it suitable for large-scale production.

Through heating, descaling, rough rolling, finish rolling, cooling, and coiling/cutting, the steel achieves precise dimensions and optimized performance, meeting the demands of high-strength fasteners.
