W-Nr 1.7225 alloy steels is a martensitic precipitation hardened stainless steel with high strength, good corrosion resistance and good toughness.

Processing Difficulties

• High hardness: After precipitation hardening treatment, the hardness of W-Nr 1.7225 alloy steels increases, and the tool wears quickly during turning and milling.

It is necessary to use tool materials with good wear resistance, such as cemented carbide, ceramic tools, etc., and reasonably select tool geometry parameters.

• High tendency to work hardening: During the cutting process, a work hardening layer will be generated on the surface of the workpiece, which will increase the difficulty of subsequent processing.

The cutting depth and feed rate should be properly controlled to avoid the hardened layer from being too deep and affecting the processing quality.

• Good toughness: The toughness of the material makes the chips difficult to break and easy to wrap around the tool and workpiece, affecting the machining surface quality and tool life.

Appropriate chip breaking measures need to be adopted.
