Nitriding treatment

The surface hardness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance are improved by infiltrating nitrogen into 20Cr4 alloy steel to form nitrides (such as CrN), but the hardness improvement is lower than that of carburizing.

Process characteristics:

Temperature: 500-570℃ (low temperature treatment, minimal deformation of the workpiece), insulation for 10-50 hours, the medium can be ammonia or nitrogen-based gas.

Performance: The surface hardness can reach 600-900 HV (about 55-65 HRC), the infiltration layer is thin (0.1-0.6 mm), but the wear resistance and bite resistance are excellent, and the nitride film formed on the surface has a certain corrosion resistance.

Applicable scenarios: 20Cr4 alloy steel is suitable for parts that require high precision, low deformation and long-term friction (such as machine tool spindles and valve stems).
