Heat Treatment Process

1 - Carburizing and Quenching

Purpose: To form a high-carbon layer (0.8-1.2mm) on the surface of ASTM 8620 alloy material, obtaining high-hardness martensite after quenching.

Process Parameters:

Carburizing Temperature: 900-950℃ (gas carburizing) or 920-960℃ (solid carburizing).

Carbon Potential: 0.8%-1.0% (adjusted according to carburizing depth).

Time: Calculated based on carburizing depth (e.g., 6-8 hours for 0.8mm).

2 - Tempering

Purpose: To eliminate quenching stress in ASTM 8620 alloy material, stabilize the microstructure, and adjust hardness.

Process Parameters:

Temperature: 150-200℃ (low-temperature tempering), holding for 2-4 hours, air cooling.

Hardness: HRC 58-62 (surface), HRC 30-40 (core).

3 - Special Treatments (Optional)

Nitriding: Further nitriding is applied to the carburized layer to form a nitride layer (hardness HV 800-1000), improving wear resistance and anti-galling properties.

Shot Peening: Shot peening is performed on ASTM 8620 alloy material after quenching, introducing surface compressive stress and improving fatigue resistance.
