1.7218 alloy structural steel (DIN standard), namely 25CrMo4, is a chromium-molybdenum alloy structural steel with good strength and toughness and heat treatable.

It is often used to manufacture automobiles, mechanical parts, pressure vessels, high-pressure pipelines, etc.

* With a medium carbon content (about 0.28%), 1.7218 alloy structural steel has better weldability than high carbon steel; * Alloy elements (Cr and Mo) are beneficial to weld strength and tempering stability under reasonable control; * The microstructure after heat treatment is uniform, and the deformation and crack tendency after welding is low (but preheating and post-heat treatment still need to be paid attention to).

Post-weld heat treatment (PWHT): * The purpose is to reduce welding residual stress, improve toughness, and reduce the risk of hydrogen-induced cracking.

* Recommended parameters (depending on the thickness of the workpiece and design requirements): * Temperature range: 620–700℃ * Insulation time: about 1 hour for every 25mm of thickness * Slow cooling to room temperature
