Its mechanism is based on the following principles:

Hydration and Swelling

HEC molecules rapidly absorb water, forming a hydrated network that increases solution viscosity.

The degree of viscosity depends on the polymer’s molecular weight and hydroxyethyl substitution level.

Film Formation

Upon drying, HEC forms a continuous, flexible film that improves surface adhesion, prevents cracking, and enhances durability in construction and coating applications.
