Professional Scr430 Steel Sheet Surface Quenching Treatment - China

SCr430 steel sheet is a chromium alloy structural steel specified in the Japanese JIS standard.

It is commonly used in the manufacture of mechanical parts (such as gears, shafts, and bushings) that require high surface hardness and core toughness.

Surface quenching is a heat treatment process that rapidly heats the workpiece surface to above the phase transition temperature, while maintaining the core temperature essentially unchanged, followed by rapid cooling.

This achieves a "hardened surface" while retaining the original toughness of the core.

The surface quenching of SCr430 steel sheet is mainly based on high-frequency induction quenching (most commonly used, suitable for mass production) and flame quenching (suitable for large/special-shaped parts).

The differences between the two processes are as follows: 1 - High-frequency induction quenching

High-frequency induction quenching uses electromagnetic induction generated by high-frequency alternating current (frequency 10-300kHz) to heat the surface.

It has a fast heating speed (1-10s) and a small heat-affected zone.

It is the preferred solution for SCr430 steel sheet.

The specific process is: (1) Pretreatment: Ensure the basic quality of quenching (2) Induction heating: Control the quality of austenitization of the surface (3) Quenching cooling: Ensure the martensite transformation of the surface - Cooling medium: 5-15% water-soluble quenching agent (such as polyvinyl alcohol, polyether) is preferred, and the cooling rate is moderate (to avoid surface cracking caused by water quenching).

Engine oil can also be used (the cooling rate is slower and suitable for thick plates with a deep hardened layer); - Cooling Method: Use "jet cooling" (spraying the cooling medium evenly onto the heated surface through a nozzle) for 3-10 seconds, ensuring rapid cooling below 500°C (avoiding the nose of the C-curve to prevent pearlite transformation).

- Cooling Uniformity: The nozzle must fully cover the surface to avoid localized insufficient cooling that can lead to uneven hardness.

2 - Flame Quenching (Alternative Process, Suitable for Large Parts)

Flame quenching uses an acetylene-oxygen flame (temperature approximately 3000°C) to directly heat the surface.

It is suitable for single-piece, large SCr430 steel sheets (such as flat plates >500mm in size).

The process is similar to induction quenching, but the following considerations apply:

- Heating Control: The flame nozzle must be moved at a constant speed (5-15mm/s) to ensure uniform surface heating and avoid localized overheating.

- Cooling Timing: Immediately after heating, high-pressure water (0.3-0.5MPa) is used for jet cooling.

The cooling rate should be faster than induction quenching (the heat-affected zone is larger due to flame heating, requiring faster cooling to maintain hardness).

In summary, the core of SCr430 steel sheet surface hardening is "precisely controlling the surface heating-cooling process.

" Through pretreatment and tempering, reasonable induction parameters, and cooling schemes, a balance between high surface hardness and high core toughness can be achieved, meeting the performance requirements of mid-to-high-end mechanical parts.
