Production Bs Bd3 Material Spheroidizing Annealing Process - China

BS BD3 is a high-carbon, high-chromium cold-work tool steel, classified as a hypereutectoid steel.

The core principle of its spheroidizing annealing process involves heating the material to Ac₁ + (20–40°C), holding it at that temperature, and then subjecting it to extremely slow cooling or isothermal holding.

This process causes the reticular or lamellar carbides to spheroidize, thereby softening the material to a hardness of 200–240 HBW, which improves machinability and cold-forming characteristics while enhancing the stability of the subsequent quenching process.

Spheroidizing Annealing Processes (3 Common Methods)

1 - **Standard (Furnace Cooling) Spheroidizing Annealing** (Most Common)

1 - **Heating: ** Rise at ≤200°C/h to **770–790°C** (Ac₁ + 10–30°C).

2 - **Soaking: ** Hold for **4–8 hours** (based on effective thickness: 1 hour per 25 mm + 2–4 hours).

3 - **Furnace Cooling: ** Cool slowly at **≤10–15°C/h** to below **600°C**.

4 - **Removal: ** Air cool from below 600°C.

- **Hardness: ** **200–240 HBW** 2 - **Isothermal Spheroidizing Annealing** (Short Cycle, Uniform Microstructure)

1 - **Heating: ** Same as above → **770–790°C** for **4–6 hours**.

2 - **Rapid Cooling: ** Furnace cool to **690–710°C** (Ar₁ – 10–20°C).

3 - **Isothermal Holding: ** Hold for **6–10 hours**.

4 - **Furnace Cooling: ** Cool at ≤20°C/h to 500–600°C, then air cool.

- **Application: ** Batch processing; when uniform hardness is required.

3 - **Cyclic Spheroidizing Annealing** (For Coarse/Reticular Carbides)

1 - **Heating: ** 770–790°C for 2 hours.

2 - **Rapid Cooling: ** Furnace cool to 680–690°C for 2 hours.

3 - **Repetition: ** **2–3 cycles**.

4 - **Final Cooling: ** Cool at ≤10°C/h to 600°C, then air cool.

- **Function: ** Breaks up reticular structures; promotes more complete spheroidization.
