Premium Grade Gb Sm4cr5mosiv1 Steel Nitriding Process - China

GB SM4Cr5MoSiV1 steel is an improved version of 4Cr5MoSiV1 hot-work die steel.

Nitriding procedures must comply with GB/T 42083‑2022; the process must be performed after quenching, tempering, and finish machining.

The nitriding temperature must be at least 30°C lower than the die's tempering temperature to prevent a reduction in substrate hardness.

Gas Nitrocarburizing (Soft nitriding; wear and scuffing resistance; short cycle)

Medium: Ammonia + ethanol/methanol; 540‑560°C; 2‑4 hours

- Effective case depth: 0.05‑0.10 mm; compound layer: 3‑8 μm

- Surface hardness: 850‑1050 HV

- Advantages: Short cycle time; Disadvantages: Thin case depth; unsuitable for long-term high-temperature die-casting conditions.

Ion Nitriding (Glow nitriding; minimal deformation; preferred for dies)

- Temperature: 520‑540°C; holding time: 8‑14 hours

- Gas pressure: 150‑400 Pa; ammonia/nitrogen gas source

- Results: Effective case depth 0.10‑0.16 mm; hardness 900‑1100 HV; compound layer is controllable (can be made thin or free of a "white layer"); superior thermal fatigue resistance compared to gas nitriding.
