Ks Sncm439 Bars Special Hardness Enhancement Process - China

To further improve the hardness of KS SNCM439 (equivalent to JIS SNCM439, equivalent to SAE 4340) rods, in addition to standard quenching and tempering heat treatment (quenching + tempering), the following special hardness improvement processes can be used: 1 - Optimized quenching and tempering process (quenching + tempering)

Quenching temperature: 820–870°C, oil quenching

Tempering temperature: Reduced to 500–550°C (conventionally 580–680°C), the hardness can be increased to HRC 55–58, but some toughness will be sacrificed.

2 - Subzero Treatment

Process: Immediately after quenching, subzero treatment (liquid nitrogen environment) at -80°C to -196°C is performed for 2–4 hours.

Function: Transforms retained austenite into martensite, increases hardness by 1–3 HRC, and enhances dimensional stability.

3 - Induction Hardening

Process: local heating to 850–900°C followed by water quenching, surface hardness can reach **HRC 58–62**, and the core remains tough.

Applicable to: parts that require local high hardness, such as shafts and gears.

If mirror finish or ultra-high wear resistance is required, ultra-deep cooling + nitriding + TiCN PVD composite treatment can be further selected.

Attention should be paid to deformation control and subsequent finishing reserve.
