JIS SKD 12 Bars Heat Treatment Process

Stress Relief: After heavy grinding or machining, it is recommended to stress relieve JIS SKD 12 bars to reduce the risk of cracking or deformation during subsequent heat treatment.

Slowly heat to 670-700°C, soak for at least two hours per 25 mm section, and then cool in the furnace.

Annealing: To prevent decarburization, use a controlled atmosphere furnace or pack in a sealed container with some inert material.

To anneal JIS SKD 12 bars to obtain minimum hardness, slowly heat to 899°C and hold at this temperature for approximately two hours per inch of maximum cross-sectional area.

Quenching: Preheating temperature: 650–750°C.

Austenitizing temperature: 925–970°C, but typically 940–960°C.

Tempering: Select the tempering temperature based on the required hardness of the JIS SKD 12 bars, referring to the tempering chart.
