JIS SCr430 steel is a medium-carbon chromium alloy structural steel specified in the Japanese Industrial Standard.

It is commonly used in the manufacture of various mechanical components and, due to its excellent overall performance, is widely used in the machinery manufacturing industry.

Heat Treatment Process: Quenching at 850-880°C with oil cooling produces a high-hardness martensitic structure, but is also relatively brittle, requiring subsequent tempering.

The tempering temperature can be selected based on requirements.

For example, tempering at 500°C reduces the hardness to 28-32 HRC and a tensile strength of 900-1100 MPa, achieving a balance of strength and toughness.

Tempering at 200°C achieves a hardness of 45-50 HRC and a tensile strength of 1500-1700 MPa, suitable for applications requiring high strength.

Large-cross-section workpieces require water quenching and oil cooling to prevent insufficient hardness in the core.

Water cooling after tempering is recommended to avoid type II temper brittleness.

Application Scenarios: In the automotive industry, JIS SCr430 steel can be used to manufacture drive shafts, gears (tempered to 28-32HRC), connecting rod bolts (quenched and tempered at 400°C, hardness 35-40HRC), etc.

; in the mechanical manufacturing field, it can be used to make hydraulic cylinder piston rods (with hard chrome plating on the surface) and machine tool spindles (induction hardening to a surface hardness of 50HRC), and other mechanical parts that require high-load wear resistance and a certain degree of impact toughness.
