SKD12 mold steel is a cold work die steel under the Japanese JIS G4404 standard, corresponding to international grades such as American A2 and British BA2 - It belongs to the air-hardening alloy tool steel category.

Its chemical composition is mainly carbon (0.95%-1.05%), chromium (4.75%-5.50%), molybdenum (0.90%-1.40%), and vanadium (0.15%-0.50%).

It is shipped in spheroidized annealed condition with a hardness ≤230HB.

This SKD12 mold steel uses an air-hardening process, resulting in deformation only 1/4 that of manganese-based oil-hardening steel.

After air quenching at 940-960℃ and tempering at 180-520℃, the hardness can be controlled to 58-61HRC, exhibiting both high wear resistance and impact toughness.

SKD12 mold steel is suitable for manufacturing precision cold work dies, such as blanking dies, stamping dies, drawing dies, and spring steel plate bending dies.

It performs exceptionally well in nitriding processes, with a typical service life of up to 400, 000 cycles.

It is also widely used in the machining of complex molds in the automotive manufacturing, precision electronics, and other fields.
