The product is annealed and has a hardness of ≤255HB.

After spheroidizing annealing softening treatment, DIN 1.2379 mold steel has good machinability.

Vanadium and molybdenum are added to the steel itself, which makes its wear resistance more outstanding.

It can be vacuum heat treated to HRC60°-62° [4], and vacuum degassing refining treatment can make the steel purer.

In general, it has high hardness and wear resistance after heat treatment.

As a cold work die steel, it has the characteristics of strong hardenability and dimensional stability.

Compared with similar steels, 1.2379 (corresponding to D2 steel) has a higher hardness than Japanese SKD11 steel, but its toughness is slightly inferior; SKD11 has a more balanced comprehensive performance.

In addition, by adding rare earth elements, its wear resistance and impact toughness can be improved, thereby extending the mold life.

Because of its higher vanadium and molybdenum content than Cr12MoV steel, DIN 1.2379 mold steel is generally considered to have superior overall performance compared to Cr12MoV steel.

In some applications, DIN 1.2379 mold steel is gradually replacing traditional Cr12MoV steel.
