ISO 35CrMoV5 mold steel is a high-strength, wear-resistant alloy steel widely used in the manufacture of high-performance molds and mechanical parts.

To further enhance its surface hardness, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance, nitriding is a common and effective surface strengthening method.

Nitriding introduces nitrogen into the steel surface, forming a high-hardness nitride layer, thus significantly improving the material's performance and lifespan.

In the nitriding treatment of ISO 35CrMoV5 mold steel, gas nitriding, ion nitriding, or liquid nitriding processes are commonly used.

1 - Gas Nitriding: This is the most traditional and widely used method.

By exposing the steel to a nitrogen-containing gas (such as ammonia) at high temperatures, nitrogen atoms diffuse into the steel surface, forming a dense nitride layer.

The advantages of gas nitriding are its mature process, stable operation, and suitability for mass production.

2 - Ion Nitriding: Also known as plasma nitriding, this is a modern nitriding technology.

It utilizes the active effect of plasma to directly inject nitrogen atoms into the steel surface.

This method offers advantages such as rapid nitriding speed, strong temperature control, and high surface quality, making it particularly suitable for treating mold steels requiring high surface finish.

3 - Liquid Nitriding: By immersing the steel in a molten salt containing nitrogen compounds, liquid nitriding can form a uniform nitrided layer in a relatively short time.

Although this method has a smaller application range, it still possesses irreplaceable advantages in certain specific situations.
