A balanced alloy composition—the synergistic effect of nickel, chromium, and molybdenum: This is key to the superior performance of 1.6523 round bars compared to simple carburized steel.

Nickel (Ni: 0.40-0.70%): Significantly refines the grain size, improving the steel's toughness, especially its low-temperature impact toughness.

This is one of its hallmarks as a high-grade carburized steel.

Chromium (Cr: 0.35-0.65%): Improves hardenability, allowing 1.6523 round bars to achieve more uniform mechanical properties after heat treatment.

Molybdenum (Mo: 0.15-0.25%): The addition of molybdenum further enhances hardenability, but its most important role is to suppress temper brittleness, which is prone to occur in nickel-containing steels during high-temperature tempering, ensuring that 1.6523 round bars can stably achieve high toughness during post-carburizing heat treatment (such as secondary quenching).

Comparison with similar grades: Compared to 1.7131 (15Cr3): 1.6523 contains nickel and molybdenum, therefore its hardenability and core toughness are far superior to 1.7131 - It is suitable for parts with higher performance requirements and larger cross-sectional dimensions.
