AISI M2 steel plate is the preferred raw material for blanking dies, forming punches, shear blades and template tooling where a flat, stress-relieved blank is needed before machining.

Unlike round bar, plate gives you a rectangular starting shape that reduces your milling time and material waste, which is why many die shops order M2 in plate or flat form directly.

Supply specification of our AISI M2 steel plate:

- Thickness range: 3mm to 160mm

- Width: up to 610mm standard; wider flats by forging arrangement

- Length: up to 2000mm or cut-to-size blanks per your drawing

- Surface conditions: hot forged and annealed (as-forged), rough machined, or precision ground on both faces

- Flatness tolerance: standard commercial flatness; precision ground plates guaranteed to 0.05mm/m on request Why plate quality matters for tooling:

1 - Carbide distribution.

Forged plate with sufficient reduction ratio shows a fine, random carbide pattern that resists cracking in service.

Cast or insufficiently worked plate shows banded carbides that fail early in punch corners.

2 - Internal soundness.

All our M2 steel plate is ultrasonic tested per SEP 1921 before shipment, so no internal porosity or inclusions are hidden inside the blank.

3 - Decarburized layer removal.

Each plate surface is machined to remove decarburization, ensuring uniform hardness after your heat treatment.

4 - Stress relief before delivery.

Optional stress relieving at 650-700°C minimizes distortion when you machine and harden the plate.

Heat treatment reference for AISI M2 steel plate after machining:

- Preheat 820-850°C, harden 1200-1220°C, quench in vacuum gas or salt bath

- Triple temper 550-570°C, final hardness 62-65 HRC

- Expected size change: roughly +0.15 to 0.20% linear growth; our technical team can advise pre-machining allowances per shape Grades equivalents: DIN 1.3343, JIS SKH51, W6Mo5Cr4V2 - plates can be stamped with heat number and grade for full traceability, and each delivery is accompanied by EN 10204 3.1 certification.

Standard stock thicknesses 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40 and 50mm are ready for immediate shipment; non-standard sizes are produced against order within 15-20 days.
