UNS G41400 alloy steel (equivalent to China's 42CrMo) is a medium-carbon alloy steel.

The cold rolling process can significantly improve its strength, surface quality and dimensional accuracy.

The following is a detailed step-by-step description of its cold rolling process technology: Cold rolling process

1) Multi-pass rolling

Rolling mill selection: Use a four-roll or six-roll reversible cold rolling mill to control the roll gap accuracy (±0.01mm).

Reduction rate distribution:

- The total reduction rate is usually 50%~80%, and the reduction rate of each pass is controlled at 10%~25% to avoid edge cracking.

Key parameters:

- Rolling force: 800~2000 tons (adjusted according to thickness)

- Tension: The front/rear tension is controlled at 50~150MPa to prevent uneven deformation of the material.

- Rolling speed: 300~800 m/min (gradual speed increase).

2) Lubrication and cooling

- Use emulsion (mineral oil + water-based solution) for lubrication and cooling, and control the oil film thickness to 20~50μm, ensuring that the temperature of the roller and the plate is ≤120℃.

3) Intermediate annealing (if necessary)

- If the work hardening is severe (hardness HRC≥35), intermittent annealing is required between rolling passes:

- Temperature: 650~700℃ (subcritical annealing), keep warm for 1~2 hours, and cool slowly to avoid hydrogen embrittlement.

Through the above process control, UNS G41400 alloy steel can meet the high-precision requirements of aerospace, high-strength fasteners and other fields.

In actual production, parameters need to be dynamically adjusted according to equipment capabilities and terminal needs.
