Its typical chemical composition consists of: Carbon 2.00%–2.20%, Chromium 11.50%–12.50%, Tungsten 0.60%–0.90%, Manganese 0.20%–0.40%, and Silicon 0.20%–0.40%.

This specific composition endows D6 steel with exceptionally high wear resistance and excellent dimensional stability; however, it also renders the material relatively difficult to machine, making the annealing process absolutely critical.

**Purpose and Principles of Annealing**

Annealing is a heat treatment process involving heating the D6 alloy steel flat bar to a specific temperature followed by slow cooling.

Its primary objectives include:

* Reducing hardness to improve machinability (cutting performance).

* Increasing ductility to facilitate subsequent cold deformation processes.

* Relieving internal stresses to prevent deformation or cracking after machining.

* Improving the microstructure to promote the formation of spheroidized carbides.

Through slow cooling, the annealing process encourages the internal microstructure of the steel to transform into softer phases (such as ferrite and spheroidized cementite), thereby achieving the desired softening effect.
