Jis Sncm220 Round Bar Mechanical Grinding Technology - China

JIS SNCM220 round bar is a low-carbon, low-alloy carburizing steel with good core toughness and a surface hardenable to HRC 58-62 - It is a commonly used material for high-load gears, bearings, and shafts.

The key technical points for the mechanical grinding of round bars can be summarized as a three-step process: pretreatment → grinding parameters → online control.

The core objectives are to suppress burns and improve dimensional consistency and surface quality.

Recommended Process Route (φ40×300 Shaft Example)

1 - Pre-machining: Leave 0.30 mm radial allowance, machine the center hole.

2 - Quenching and Tempering: 850℃ oil quench + 200℃ tempering → 28-32 HRC

3 - Semi-finish Turning: Leave 0.15 mm, remove oxide scale.

4 - Centerless Rough Grinding: ap=0.02 mm, leave 0.04 mm.

5 - Carburizing and Quenching: Layer depth 0.8-1.2 mm, surface 58-62 HRC.

6 - Finish Grinding:

- Rough and finish grinding completed in one step, ap=0.005 mm, constant force control.

- Automatic tool retraction via online measuring instrument to dimension.

7 - Ultra-finishing/Polishing (Optional): Ra ≤0.1 µm Following the above parameters and process, JIS SNCM220 round bar can achieve stable, efficient, and burn-free precision grinding, and the surface quality and dimensional accuracy fully meet the requirements of high-end parts such as gear shafts and drive shafts.
