1.2738 mold steel is a pre-hardened plastic mold steel produced according to german din standards.

it has excellent mechanical properties and processability and is widely used in the manufacture of hot working molds.

its heat treatment process mainly includes quenching and tempering.

## heat treatment process

**quenching**

- **preheating temperature**: 500~600°c.

- **quenching temperature**: 840~880°c, hold for 30 minutes.

- **cooling method**: temper immediately after oil cooling to 50~70°c to reduce the risk of quenching cracks.

**tempering**

- **tempering temperature**: 180°c, 200°c, 300°c, 400°c, 500°c, 600°c.

- **insulation time**: 1 hour per 25mm of workpiece thickness, at least 2 hours.

- **hardness change**:

- 180°c: 52hrc

- 200°c: 51hrc

- 300°c: 48hrc

- 400°c: 46hrc

- 500°c: 42hrc
