New Dimension Enterprises (NDE) produces and delivers interactive business workshops, where teams seek to turn around their virtual company in a highly competitive market. The challenge features a unique, flexible multi-function business simulation. The “Chief Executive” business game delivers experiential learning driven by the will to win. The challenge is to turn round a “virtual” business and maximise its value in a highly competitive market place - making similar decisions to those taken in real companies. Teams set their own objectives and strategy, reviewing past performance and analysing market opportunities before making key policy decisions for up to six trading periods. In addition to balancing finance, marketing, production and resource planning issues, the directors must safeguard and balance the interests of shareholders, customers, employees, suppliers and other interested parties. Just as flight simulators accelerate pilot training, running a virtual company provides a realistic, effective and highly rewarding learning experience. Participants explore beyond their comfort-zone limits, deepening understanding and broadening perceptions of how businesses work, without risking real financial assets or other resources. The flexible format provides several options, including a two-day on-site workshop, an on-line workshop and a combined on-site/on-line event. These may be augmented by pre-selected third-party training sessions or with video programs chosen to reflect the individual needs of each team. For example, Interactive Business Challenge events can focus on change management, commercial awareness, team-building, business turnaround and finance for non-finance managers. After the final trading round, each team delivers a presentation to the group, outlining the strategy and priorities adopted, describing the challenges encountered, explaining how these were tackled, summarising the lessons learned and sharing ways in which these could improve results in real-life situations. The event concludes with the announcement of the winning team. A Personal Edition of the business game is available for learning reinforcement, where individuals can take on up to eight virtual competitors. Performance improvement can be monitored using the “executive score” and “virtual bonus” features.
