Quinta da Murqueira is a brand of Quality Wines Produced in Demarcated Region (Q.W.P.D.R.) with Controlled Appellation (A.O.C.) “DÃO”.
It belongs to a young and essentially familiar company (Casa Agrícola Cardoso de Menezes), whose ancestors played a preponderant role in the introduction of grape varieties in the region, which are today the recommended varieties for the production of the wines from Dão.
Quinta da Murqueira appeared at the time when this House (“Casa”) decided to initiate the vinification by its own means, having for that purpose invested heavily in equipments and vineyards. For decades the grapes of the "Casa Menezes" were vinified at the local wine cooperative cellar.
One of the motives of the metamorphosis of the "House/ Casa" in "Company/ Empresa", was the recovery of the family’s vineyards through the creation of updated management methods and the opening of distributing channels to the most diverse markets, from which exportation was considered to be the top priority.
With commercial bonds created in countries with a high purchase capacity, a second phase would follow regarding the commercialization field: the development on the midst of the Portuguese market.
One can say that the strategic option of this enterprise was the consolidation "from the outside, inwards".
This was how, in result of the growth strategy along this short segment of time, either for the quantity produced as for the product’s quality, the pile of national and international prizes walks very fast towards the four dozens, from which one third was given to white wines.
