COMPANY PROFILE

CCI is a project management firm specializing in transferring Canadian technology in cancer control and related health management services to clients in developing countries. We are a small firm whose role is to obtain international projects for Canada and then organize content experts to implement a solution. CCI’s mission is to play a role in the improvement of world health through the appropriate provision of expertise in cancer control and patient support services.
Cancer Care International has obtained recognition as a leader in the field of cancer control systems and supporting technology. To date, CCI has provided consulting expertise in areas of training and cancer detection and prevention. CCI’s projects have included:
Concept and Financing study for a comprehensive oncology system in Costa Rica.
Planning and development an organized cervical cancer screening program in Brazil.
Business plan for cancer centre turnaround in Argentina.
Institutional strengthening for National Cancer Institute of Brazil
Training programs for PAHO
In 1998, CCI won the Canadian Award for International Cooperation for the Planning and development of an Organized Cervical Cancer Screening Program for Brazil. The incidence of cervical cancer in Brazil was among one of the highest in the world. Over 70% of women diagnosed had an advanced disease at the time of their first appointment with a cancer centre. However, the disease can be prevented and, if found in the early stages it is 100% curable. CCI worked together with the Brazilian National Cancer Institute (INCA) to implement an organized Cervical Cancer Screening program. CCI developed an operations manual outlining cervical cancer care in Brazil, an information system to register and track the women in the program, and an evaluation program to provide information about the effectiveness of the program. CCI further encouraged that this program for women should be managed by women and endorsed the involvement of women in senior positions in the program. Finally, a public education program, on the importance of early detection, was delivered with the assistance of a communications firm and several Brazilian women’s groups. CCI is very proud of the advancements in cancer control made in Brazil.
Currently, Cancer Care International is working in Trinidad. The Ministry of Health, Trinidad and Tobago has hired Cancer Care International to conduct an Techno-Economic Feasibility Study for a National Oncology Program. The feasibility study will be the first step in the establishment of a National Oncology Centre (NOC) at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex. The NOC is aimed at achieving earlier diagnosis, effective treatment and care, and a reduction in cancer mortality and morbidity. The Centre may evolve to provide a focus for cancer care throughout the Caribbean.
